Here at studyist, we want the best for you and for your grades. We understand that no matter how well you are understanding the content of your classes, your grades greatly depend on your ability to stay organized. With an unorganized mindset or environment, your grades tend to be affected. This article will provide all the information and resources you need to get back on track.

Here are our 3 steps to an organized and successful school year:

  1. Designate an area for studying and keep it organized.
  2. Organize your backpack.
  3. Have a clear plan of when you will study/complete your assignments.

Let's Get Started!

Importance of an Organized Workspace

It is important to choose a desk/table in a quiet and calm area as this will be your designated workspace for studying and doing homework. The area that you choose has the ability to put your mind in “study-mode” and therefore should only be used for its intended purpose. The point is to train your mind to associate the designated area with studying.

With this said, the first step to staying organized in school is having a neat study area. If your designated workspace is disorganized, there is a lower chance of you being motivated to study or you will struggle to maintain a focused mindset.

But have no fear, studyist is here! Here are some useful tips for an organized workspace:

  • Keep your most-used items near your dominant hand.
  • Do not overcrowd your desk! Only keep the assignments that you are currently working on.
  • Group items together (ex. Store pens, pencils, and markers in a pencil holder).
  • Free your workspace of any distractions.

Organizing Your Backpack

It is not uncommon to have an unorganized backpack. As we are rushing from one class to another, we tend to shove our papers and pencils into the abyss of our backpack. It is an inevitable task that we all seem to do. Truthfully, the last thing you want is to have your assignments crumbled inside your backpack, where you are likely to forget and not complete it.

But we have the solution! Here are three methods to keeping your school papers organized:

  • Expanding File folder: This will allow you to store papers for multiple classes in one folder.
  • Folder: Allows you to store your paperwork for certain classes in each folder.
  • Binder with Dividers: Allows you to separate your paperwork into sections with dividers.

You can choose the method that works best for you and your classes.

Allas, papers are not the only thing that gets shoved into the abyss of your backpack, it is also useful to keep your supplies stored in a pencil pouch. Ensure that your pencil pouch has enough room for all your supplies and that it is convenient to use, otherwise you will resort to throwing your supplies into your backpack once again.

Keep your Tasks Organized

Speaking from experience, we know that when you do not have a clear academic plan, you are left feeling stressed and overwhelmed. In the worst case scenario, you will end up missing an important deadline, having assignments passed their due dates, or forgetting to study for a test and showing up unprepared. All of these can be detrimental to your grades. The last thing you want is to fall behind and into a “never-ending” cycle of late work.

Luckily, studyist have your back! We have three great methods to get your tasks organized:

  • Planner
  • If you find yourself to be straightforward and to the point, the planner may be the perfect match for you
  • Digital planning app (Such as Microsoft to-do, Notion, or Stickies)
  • If you consider yourself as a techy person and dont enjoy the idea of carrying around a physical planner, you will definitely enjoy these digital planning apps.
  • Bullet journal
  • If you are creative and artsy, you'll love the creative liberty that goes along with personalizing a bullet journal.
